Watco has launched Tor’s new fire protection system, Torrex 3, to help buildings comply with updated UK fire safety standards, offering enhanced protection for high-risk interior spaces.

Developed for use in areas such as stairwells, communal zones and fire escape routes, the coating system is designed to slow the spread of flames during a fire. By delaying fire progression, it aims to provide residents with more time to evacuate safely while reducing potential structural damage.

Torrex 3 has gained a Euroclass B rating - the highest classification available for combustible materials under the European fire safety system. This rating assesses how materials react to fire, including their resistance to ignition and their ability to limit the spread of flames. Torrex 3 is currently the only fire upgrading coating system in the UK that meets this newly established benchmark.

The product is a comprehensive solution for internal walls and ceilings, particularly in high-risk environments such as social housing and shared residential buildings. Its formulation is intended to enhance fire resistance across critical escape routes and communal areas, where safety measures are especially vital.

In addition to its fire performance, the formula has been engineered for durability and ease of application. It consists of three layers including a base coat, intermediate coat and top coat and can be applied using a roller. The coating is available in an eggshell finish and a range of RAL colours, offering flexibility for different requirements.
