Project details

Kenwood is favoured by many in the UK for its supply of high-quality kitchen appliances. The kitchen specialist is known for its approach to products, combining efficiency and performance with a stylish finish across ranges. Kenwood seeks to maintain its high standards across the entirety of its operations, from products, to the warehouse they are stored in.

Kenwood’s requirements

Kenwood’s Hampshire-based warehouse was suffering from dusty floors and a tired look and feel. The team had previously worked with Watco to source the repair products and floor coatings required for other projects, therefore it was an easy decision to contact the experts again to revitalise the warehouse space.

The project brief was to elevate the appearance of the warehouse, making it more visually appealing for those operating in the space and also to combat the degradation caused by heavy traffic in the area. Furthermore, solutions were to be selected in order to protect against wear and tear so that line markings and signposting would be easily visible – this element was crucial to ensure safety and minimise hazards around the warehouse.

“We are delighted with the outcome which completely revitalised the appearance of the warehouse, protecting the floor for many years to come. Epoxy Gloss Coat is an extremely tough product, so ideal in high traffic areas where durability is important”

The Watco solution

Watco’s experts conducted an initial assessment of Kenwood’s requirements, and introduced the team to Aedean Flooring, an experienced flooring specialist in the local area who would conduct the application.

To begin the makeover, the floor was first shot blasted and lightly ground to remove debris and dirt, in preparation for the repair work. To address areas of wear and tear where cracks had appeared and the flooring had started to deteriorate, an incredibly strong and fast drying epoxy resin repair mortar - Watco Concrex® Carbon Fibre was applied. Whereas, holes were repaired with a pourable mortar - Watco Flowpatch, which features a fibre-reinforced formula to provide added strength and prevent damage later down the line.

Warehouse safety was a top priority for this project, and while uneven flooring can result in slips trips and falls, another hazard frequently identified in warehouses is a lack of marking which can lead to workers or visitors entering dangerous areas.

In the warehouse, Watco’s Epoxy Gloss Coat was used to support the safe identification of designated areas, which is particularly important for anyone new to the site. A variety of colours were used, including mid grey, safety yellow, signal red, royal blue and black. Epoxy Gloss Coat is an extremely tough product, so ideal in high traffic areas where durability is important.

All products used in the repair job were fast drying to limit downtime and prevent the busy warehouse being out of action for long.
