Description

Description

FZ400 Movement Joint Filler is a revolutionary fire protection solution, tested for use in linear joints (both vertical and horizontal) and as a method to provide penetration seal movement around and at the head of Nullifire FB750 Intubatt. It is also tested to be used as cable trunking infill. Nullifire has developed a ground breaking and unique fire stopping technology: GXT (Graphite eXpansion Technology). GXT has been incorporated within Nullifire FZ400 inside a water resistant sleeve.

Recommended areas of use

  • FZ400 is ideally suited to all areas with dynamic live load environment such as airports, train stations, hospitals and high rise buildings. It may also be suitable for buildings being designed for earthquake zones or military buildings designed to withstand high ground movement shockwaves.
  • FZ400 is tested and suitable to be installed around, and to the head of, FB750 Intubatt service penetration seals. The product will allow and absorb any deflection, differential and service movement up to ±30mm (tested) and up to ±60mm (theoretically). FZ400 has been cyclic tested and subsequently fire tested with the inclusion of service penetrations.
  • FZ400 may be used to reinstate the performance of fire compartment lines, both walls and floors, where construction joints require a physical movement seal and a specific fire rating.
  • FZ400 has been tested in linear joints up to 115mm gap width in walls / 150mm gap width in floors.
  • FZ400 has 60% demonstratable compression capability (compress and return). It is tolerant of very large movement and is used in areas where standard mastic joints are not suitable. FZ400 offers a solution for areas subject to regular cycles of expansion and contraction or vibration, in compression, where reliability is vital.
  • FZ400 is also designed to provide a permanent fire barrier within trunking boxes passing through fire compartment walls. It has been tested within flexible walls.

Application

Application

Preparation:

All surfaces must be clean, sound, free from dirt, grease and other contamination.

Application:

Measure opening ensuring that gaps to be filled are the correct specified size and relatively consistent width. FZ400 should have 10mm compression at every joint (e.g. 1000mm of product will fill 990mm of linear gap length).

Ensure fire resistance of FZ400 corresponds or exceeds the requirements of the fire strategy or fire compartment.

Check for obstructions to the gap such as ties between steel and masonry and loose mortar. FZ400 may have to be cut around and compressed against unavoidable obstructions such as wall ties or guidance rods (this situation is tested).

Starting from one end, gently compress FZ400 (using only hand pressure) and insert suitably into required location. Consult Performance Data table to ensure correct location requirement is achieved.

Repeat above process moving along the linear seal, ensuring mating butt joints between lenghts of FZ400, until compartment seal is completed.

It is not necessary to use adhesive to retain FZ400.

If the FZ400 sleeve is cut, the open end should be resealed using a suitable adhesive tape, such as illbruck ME315.

Finally inspect the finished work to ensure compliance with instructions.

Application details on the creation of the service movement framework system that permits service movement can be found in the separate document 'Nullifire FZ400 Application Instructions'.
