LimitationsIn order to ensure that excess moisture vapour will not permeate the membrane, Watco Surface DPM should be applied at least 250 350 microns thick. It is essential that the applied coating is continuous, free of pinholes or thin patches otherwise an additional coat will be necessary. To avoid over extending the coverage, mark out the subfloor in units of 12.5m² – 15m² before mixing. Watco Surface DPM is not designed to hold back water or water vapour pressure that would occur in (less common) situations where the underfloor damp proof membrane is missing or defective. Once fully cured, Watco Surface DPM can be part of a coating or floor covering system on heated concrete or sand/cement screeds provided the surface temperature does not exceed 27°C.
Surface PreparationThe surface must be firm, sound, clean, dry and free of any contaminants liable to prevent penetration into the substrate or adhesion to the surface. Machine scarifying or shot blasting are ideal ways to clean and prepare large areas of concrete and remove contaminants. Shot blasting is also recommended on lightly polished surfaces. Use a vacuum to remove all surface dust. Site overshoes are recommended to prevent contamination of the DPM system.
Mixing
Mix full packs only. Stir the resin and curing agent thoroughly before emptying the curing agent into the resin container. Mix thoroughly to ensure uniform colour and consistency. We recommend using a slow speed drill fitted with a
paddle. Ensure all materials from the base and sides of the containers are mixed in. Due to the short pot life (30 minutes at 20°C) do not mix more than one pack at a time.
Application
Immediately after mixing, pour the product onto the prepared surface in ribbons to avoid excessive heat build up and maximise the working life. Spread the mixture over the floor, preferably with a notched trowel. Whilst the coating is still wet, flatten the surface with a long handled, fluff free roller that has been pre-wetted with Watco Surface DPM. Care should be taken to ensure 100% coverage at the correct thickness of between 250 350 microns, which is approximately 12.5 to 15.0m² per 6kg pack. When working on larger areas you should replace worn or blocked trowels to ensure the correct coating thickness is maintained.
