Description
Watco Safety Grip Rapid uses a new formula which allows coated areas to be brought back into use in as little as 3 hours. Like standard Safety Grip, it is applied in a single thick coat – simply roller out, scatter the aggregate and roller again to bed it in. Not for use at low temperatures.

  • A coarsely textured slip resistant coating that is ideal for steps, ramps and floors
  • Dramatically reduces slips – even when wet or oily
  • Extremely hard wearing carborundum and aluminium oxide grit locked into a thick epoxy coating

    Coverage: Approx 5m² per pack.

    PREPARATION & APPLICATION

    Surface Preparation

    Concrete

Concrete to be treated must be at least four weeks old, completely dry and free of surface laitance (a weak dusty layer on concrete), contaminants and any previous poorly bonded coatings. All traces of grease or oil should be removed with Watco Bio D (or a similar degreasant) and the area thoroughly washed off and allowed to dry. Very smooth concrete or concrete with surface laitance should be etched with Watco Cemtetch to ensure adequate adhesion. The concrete should be thoroughly washed down and allowed to dry after treatment with Watco Cemtetch.
    Stone
Stone should be dry and free of all loose surface material and contaminants.
    Painted Surfaces
Previously painted surfaces should be thoroughly abraded by sanding to improve adhesion and to remove any weak or loose material. A trial area is advisable to test compatibility with previous coatings.
    Bare Metal
Remove any rust and flaking material by disc grinding or wire brushing. Apply the coating immediately after preparation to the clean metal surface. Grease or oil can be removed using Watco Bio D a solvent free degreaser. Allow the metal to dry before coating.
    Galvanised Metal
Do not apply the coating direct to galvanised metal surfaces without first preparing using Watco Galvaprime a single pack wash primer. Surfaces treated with Watco Galvaprime should be allowed to dry before coating.

    Mixing
Pour the liquid contents of the two small tins (resin and curing agent) into the larger outer tin and mix thoroughly until uniform in colour. Do not mix in the anti slip aggregate. The mixed components must be decanted into a shallow roller tray and used immediately. If the mixed components are not decanted the mixing tin will quickly become very hot and could pose a hazard. The working life of the mixed products is approx. 20 – 30 minutes at 20°C and 30 minutes at 5°C. Pot life will be dramatically reduced if the mixed components are left in the mixing tin - the product could become unusable within 10 minutes.

    Application
A pile type roller (not foam) should be used to apply the mixture. Pour it into a shallow roller tray. It is recommended that the product be applied in the following manner.

    1. Apply the mixture by roller to a measured area of 5m².
    2. Immediately sprinkle the anti-slip aggregate uniformally onto the wet coat to obtain the desired surface finish (total or light coverage).
    3. Using the same roller that was used to apply the mixed resin and curing agent roll over the sprinkled aggregate to bed in and cover the anti slip aggregate. It is not normally necessary to re-charge the roller with mixed resin unless very heavy quantities of grit have been applied.
In exceptional temperature conditions advice should be obtained from Watco’s Technical Department.
