Surface PreparationSurfaces should be clean, dry and free from dust or contamination by oils, greases, etc. Concrete should be clean and reasonably level, but not power floated. If the surface is power floated seek advice from Watco. Concrete should be hard, free from dust and not friable. Very porous surfaces may require two or more coats. Steel should be rust free, clean, oil free, and preferably shot blasted. Timber should be clean, dry, and well fixed down to avoid flexing. For previously painted surfaces, check compatibility with the existing coating. Adhesion will only be as good as the adhesion of the existing coating. Asphalt surfaces should be hard and well bonded and at least 3 months old. Asphalt and tarmac should be clean, dry and free from contamination. Priming is not normally required as the product is self-priming.
Mixing
Remove the two inner cans from the outer can. Stir each can separately to ensure pigments etc are properly mixed in. Pour the entire contents of each inner can (scrape the sides and bottom) into the outer can and mix until a completely uniform consistency and appearance is achieved. Mix by hand for about 3 to 4 minutes, preferably using the
Watco Paint Mixer, or else a wooden batten. Ensure any material on the sides and bottom of the can are mixed in.
Application
Pour the mixed contents into a tray or plastic scuttle and apply with a short or medium pile roller, or by brush. If cutting in with a brush do this after using the roller to avoid exceeding the pot life. Apply one or two coats as required, allowing two hours between coats.
