Substrates
Protecta-Coat can be used over most existing paint coatings, although a sample area should be tested first if in doubt. Protecta-Coat will also cope with slight movement in an existing coating, and is therefore fine to overcoat asphalt coatings and areas around vibrating machinery for instance.
Surface Preparation
Floor temperature must be above -10°C and dry. Existing floor paint finishes must be sound and grease and oil should be removed with
Watco Bio-D (or similar emulsifying degreasant). It is important that this is thoroughly washed off and the floor is allowed to dry. A good sweep or mechanical brushing is generally regarded as sufficient in these circumstances. If applying outside do not apply when rain is forecast.
Mixing
Mix between 10°C-25°C. Remove the two tins from the large outer tin. Stir each tin individually and pour into larger outer tin. (Ensure that tin contents are completely emptied by scraping the sides etc). Mix the components together thoroughly using a spatula or wide bladed tool. Continue mixing until an even blend/consistency is obtained. Do not mix more than one tin at a time. If a mixing blade and electric drill are used, also use a spatula to ensure any unmixed material from sides/corners and bottom of the tin is not missed. Do not dilute. The product will last for 25-30 minutes at 15°C. Less at higher temperatures.
Application
Apply between -10°C and +30°C. The viscosity will become somewhat thicker when applied at temperatures below 0°C and may result in a slight loss of coverage. When mixed a short pile roller should be used to work the product to around or over a 30m² area. This product is designed and performs best when applied very thinly (50 microns). If applied too thickly curing problems can occur.
Curing Times
Times are dependent on site conditions, but the following can be used as a guide:
| 20°C | 5°C | 0°C | -10°C |
| Recoatable | 4-5 hrs | 10-12 hrs | 16 hrs | 30 hrs |
| Light Traffic | 6-8 hrs | 18 hrs | 24 hrs | 36 hrs |
| Heavy Traffic | 12 hrs | 24 hrs | 36 hrs | 48 hrs |
