Watco Wallguard can be applied to new or old plaster, render, brick, painted surfaces and coated metal. In general, the surface should be clean, dry and free of loose material and contamination. Watco Bio D or a similar degreasant can be used for removing grease and oil.
Painted Surfaces - Previously painted surfaces should be thoroughly abraded to improve adhesion and to remove any weak or loose material.
Plaster, render, brick and concrete surfaces - New plaster, render and concrete should be allowed to dry out and then brushed thoroughly to remove any loose material. We recommend priming bare, porous surfaces with one coat of Watco Universal Sealer. This will reduce porosity and therefore improve the coverage and appearance of the Watco Wallguard. As an alternative to Watco Universal Sealer, dilute the first coat of Watco Wallguard with 20% water and subsequently apply two full coats.
If appearance is critical we recommend the application of a small trial area first.
The contents of the tin should be thoroughly stirred using a wide bladed tool. Apply by medium pile type roller (not foam) or brush. Two coats are recommended. Further coats may be required on exceptionally porous or open textured surfaces.
In exceptional temperature conditions advice should be obtained from Watco’s Technical Department.
