Surface Preparation
General
Watco Fireguard can be applied to new or old plaster, internally and externally. It is self priming onto plaster, blockwork and brickwork and can also be applied to existing painted surfaces. (Although a Class ‘O’ fire rating cannot be guaranteed in this instance.) Watco Bio-D can be used if oil or grease are present.
Painted Surfaces
Previously painted surfaces should be thoroughly abraded to improve adhesion and remove any weak material.
Plaster, tender, brick and concrete
Should be allowed to dry out and then brushed thoroughly to remove any loose material.
Application
The contents of the tin should be thoroughly stirred using a wide bladed tool. Apply using a medium pile roller (not foam) or brush.
Two coats are recommended, but occasionally further coats may be required on exceptionally porous or open textured surfaces. Fireguard can be spray applied by the following or similar – Graco 1500, 6:17 Spray tip and 60 or 100 mesh filter, pressure: 2800-3000 psi/19-21 MPa.
For an application to areas or in temperatures not listed please consult the Watco Technical Department.
